phpFoX vs. HandShakes (DZOIC)
HandShakes was created by DZOIC, as a Social Networking Community Script (SNS), that would be made available to anyone, much like any Bulletin Board system.
HandShakes is a very solid Script, and very similar to phpFoX in many ways.
How Does HandShakes Compare?
HandShakes (by DZOIC) is a fully customizable script that installs, looks and feels very much like phpFoX. The Installation process is very simple, the Branding Free option works much like the phpFoX branding free option, which is cool.
The Templating system for Handshakes works just like the old versions of phpFoX, using .tpl files for the templating system, which works out great if you're a designer... for the most part. Editing the files is not as easy as one MIGHT believe, unless you're very good with HTML.
I like Handshakes because it feels "tough". It almost feels heftier than most other scripts, in some way.
What's the different between phpFoX and DZOIC HandShakes?
First off, HandShakes might have become "the big one", prior to phpFoX, if they would have spent more time listening to their user base. They have a great script, but it lacked in terms of features. For example, originally the script did not come with an integrated forum and you had to shell out for IPB or vBulletin...
Luckily, things have changed... a little. The Community Support is like a pebble amongst boulders - when it comes to comparing HandShakes forum support system with phpFoX. I truly think this is a big problem with HandShakes and, who knows, maybe this may change soo.
Overall, this script, originally, had more overall functionality than the rest... I feel that they just took the growth a little too slow.
Support is OK and the script is very good, but you might have some issues finding qualified people to help with customization, if you go looking for it.
I remember, at one time, there was an issue with slow upgrades. I believe this has been fixed, but it was a problem in the past.
I think phpFoX MIGHT out perform handshakes, these days, when it comes to full on quality from the script - down to the Support from the forums and even customer service. Upgrades with phpFoX have always been very fast... fixes are within hours, for the most part. Whether it's from the company or someone on the forums - there's always ways around problems.
Then again... I could be wrong. These two might just be the closest two right now.
phpFoX also has a very nice plugin system that has been the backbone of some very nice plugins over the past year. This is just another reason that phpFoX would win in a 1 on 1 contest,in my opinion.
But, don't take my word for it - DEFINITELY go check out the demo of HandShakes and check out the Front end AND the Admin Control panel!
